On November 5th, 2024, the Survivors’ Secretariat held its Third Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Six Nations Community Hall. Survivors’ Secretariat lead Laura Arndt reflected on the challenges and successes of the 2023/2024 fiscal year. This year marked the completion of the Secretariat’s first three years of funding, during which notable progress was made in our work in ‘Bringing the Children Home.’
While significant progress has been made, the work is far from over. There are still many hurdles to overcome, particularly in our ongoing investigative efforts and the urgency of securing continued adequate funding to ensure that the truth is told within the lifetimes of remaining Survivors.
Seven months into this fiscal year, funding challenges persist, leading Survivors’ Secretariat to pause two major projects. While we still wait to hear from the federal government, the Secretariat must rely on reallocated resources to maintain operations.
We hope Canada will restore vital funding to the Indian Residential Schools Missing Children Community Support Fund, so Survivors can get the answers they deserve; until then, we remain steadfast in our mission to support Survivors and bring justice to the children who died or were disappeared.
